Gurgaon 06 March 2023: Atmanirbhar Bharat (Make in India) reaches another milestone with Gurugram-based Fuel Cell and Sustainable Energy enterprise, FC TecNrgy Pvt Ltd (FCT), a leading Fuel Cell provider in India for direct methanol and hydrogen fuel cells, securing a prestigious contract with the Indian Army for 450 Nos Manportable Fuel Cell based Battery Chargers with complete accessories.
This is the largest fuel cell order awarded by the Indian defense forces so far. The order will be delivered over the next year for an initial order value in excess of Rs 140 Crores. FCT and its strategic partner SFC Energy AG of Germany will jointly collaborate and manufacture the system in India (through their Indian subsidiary, SFC Energy India). This follows the earlier order for 100 numbers of the same system delivered to the Indian Army in 2022.
This solution can charge multiple batteries carried by Infantry and Special Forces soldiers while operating off the grid in remote areas, at high altitudes, and during special operations. The system is based on Methanol as a fuel and is extremely dependable, lightweight, intelligent, has very low fuel consumption and has the ability to operate in extreme climatic conditions and harsh terrain. The Indian Army and Ministry of Defence (MoD) are increasingly seeking clean energy solutions to replace polluting fossil fuel-based energy systems such as diesel generators.
Colonel Karandeep Singh (Retired), Director, FCT highlighted “This Fuel Cell solution has been specifically customized by us in India to charge most of the existing batteries and sensors currently in use by the Indian Army with intelligent cables, rugged connectors, portable fuel refill unit, a smart hybrid battery, etc. while being under eight (08) Kgs. This system will reduce soldier power loads by up to 80% while significantly enhancing reliability, mobility, and mission endurance and it is a clean energy solution. We are excited and proud that these state-of-the-art Fuel Cells will now be made jointly in India along with our partner, SFC which is a great validation of the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative of our Prime Minister, Shree Narendra Modi which has also encouraged small technology startups like FCT to grow. The same systems being procured again by the Indian Army is a validation of their effectiveness and usefulness”.
In a significant boost to the Atmanirbhar (Make in India) initiative of the Indian Govt in the field of Clean Energy and CO2 reduction, Prime Minister Shree Narendra Modi and Chancellor Olaf Schultz of Germany and the respective government and trade delegations, on the sidelines of their summit level talks in New Delhi on 25 Feb 2023 gave the green light to the signing of the strategic Hydrogen and Methanol Fuel Cell manufacturing agreement between FC TecNrgy Pvt Ltd (FCT) and SFC Energy, Ag.
“Securing a milestone order for man-portable fuel cells by the Indian Army and the signing of our landmark Make in India production agreement with our partner FCT further re-affirms our belief in the business potential of India, especially with the recent policy measures announced by the Indian Govt to promote clean energy solutions including fuel cells. By making these systems under Make in India, we want to contribute our deep expertise in hydrogen and methanol fuel cell technologies to achieve ambitious climate protection targets across various industries and geographies in India. Together with our strategic Indian partner, FCT, we share the vision of a carbon-neutral society and the conviction to be an important contributor towards the global energy transition,” says Dr. Peter Podesser CEO of SFC Energy AG.
